Butler aiming for more free throws and another upset of Villanova

INDIANAPOLIS — If the best things in life are free, the Butler Bulldogs are not living their best life.

They don’t get anything free. Not free throws anyway.

Out of 351 NCAA Division I basketball teams, they are 315th in free throw attempts – 291 total, or about 15 a game. Among teams in seven major conferences, only four have shot fewer – Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Missouri, Wisconsin.

On the other hand, Mississippi State and Virginia Tech have been living in the Top 25. Wisconsin just knocked off then-No. 2 Michigan. Free throws are desirable, Butler coach LaVall Jordan said, but so are layups and uncontested 3-point attempts.
