INDIANAPOLIS – Two years ago at this time, Sean McDermott was admitted to a hospital emergency room for what he thought was the flu. Doctors told him it could be a life-threatening illness, maybe cancer or leukemia.
“I thought I was going to die, honestly,” McDermott said months later.
Turned out it was a severe staph infection, causing pain in his hips and knees. He returned for his senior season at Pendleton Heights High School.
A year ago at this time, he was told there wouldn’t be enough minutes available at Butler to use up a freshman season of eligibility.
