Georgetown shot 59 percent, built a 15-point lead and held off a frantic comeback, beating Butler 87-83 Tuesday night in Big East basketball at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs, trailing by 14 with less than 6 minutes left, twice climbed back within three points. Kamar Baldwin’s long 3-point attempt to tie the score with 5 seconds left missed.

Big East scoring leader Kelan Martin scored 22 points for Butler (17-10, 7-7). Tyler Wideman scored 19 points and Baldwin 16.

Marcus Derrickson scored a career-high 27 for Georgetown (15-10, 5-9). Trey Dickerson added 18 points and Jessie Govan 17.
