INDIANAPOLIS – Butler basketball coaches have encouraged Kelan Martin to be more efficient on offense and influence the game beyond scoring.

Got it, Coach.

Martin had 29 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday night, leading Butler to an 81-69 victory over Utah in the best nonleague pairing in Hinkle Fieldhouse this season.

Martin shot 7-of-9 in the second half, including a long jumper and a 3-pointer to push Butler ahead 79-69 after the Utes had cut the Bulldogs' 15-point lead to six.

Martin scored Butler’s first four points, giving him 1,440 and pushing him past Bobby Plump (1954-58) for 15th on the school’s all-time list.
