Steve Stone bemoaned a ‘sub-standard’ performance as the Clarets let go off their grip on a play-off place.
A 3-2 defeat at Bristol City – only Burnley’s second loss in 12 games across all competitions – kept Stone’s men third in the Professional Development League’s northern section.
And the U23s’ boss admitted the players’ approach at Ashton Gate had not been right as they surrendered an early lead and missed a second-half penalty to give away the points.
“They dipped well below the standards I’ve tried to set them, but that they have set themselves,” said Stone.
