An 87th minute penalty from Middlesbrough denied Steve Stone’s side all three points, in the opening Group G fixture of the Premier League Cup, at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park.
Scott Wilson opened the scoring in the 11th minute from a corner, but Ben Liddle fired home from the spot with three minutes to go, to ensure the honours were even on a wet afternoon in the North East.
After a fairly quiet opening 10 minutes, Burnley took the lead through defender Wilson, as the centre-back got on the end of Josh Benson’s corner and turned in the opener.
