Paul Merson insists he is 'very SHOCKED' that more Premier League clubs did not try and sign Aaron Ramsey after Welshman's loan move to Rangers from Juventus - adding that midfielder would have been Newcastle's best addition 'by a mile'

Ex-Arsenal star Paul Merson emphasised his 'shock' that more Premier League clubs did not go all in to sign Aaron Ramsey in the January transfer window.

The £400,000-a-week Wales star, who has not played for Juventus since October, joined Scottish champions Rangers on loan on deadline-day in a surprising move.

Everton, Newcastle, Burnley and Wolves were all amongst the interested parties yet Merson says the Magpies in particular should have tried to sign ex-Gunner Ramsey.
