Gareth Southgate calls Burnley defender Michael Keane into England squad after Stoke's Glen Johnson withdraws

Burnley defender Michael Keane has been called into the senior England squad for the first time.

The 23-year-old has been drafted in by interim boss Gareth Southgate ahead of Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Malta after Glen Johnson was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Keane, who came through the youth ranks at Manchester United, will report to St. George’s Park on Tuesday along with the rest of the 23-man group.

The centre-back is well known to Southgate having made 16 appearances under him for the Under-21s between 2013 and 2016.
