The PFA are honouring their promise to help former players suffering from dementia, with Burnley great Jimmy Robson among those finally receiving the care he deserves.
Robson, 82, is one of seven men from the Burnley team who won the 1959-60 title to have been diagnosed with what he describes as a ‘football disease’.
It is approaching three months since Sportsmail launched its campaign urging football’s powers to tackle the game’s dementia crisis. At that time, Robson was receiving no help from his union, with the burden of responsibility on his family.
In an interview with Sportsmail, Robson was aware he had dementia and explained: ‘The ball would disappear up in the sky and when it came down I’d head it.
