Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg believes Gary Cahill’s red card against Burnley was ‘harsh’.
Many people were split on whether the Chelsea captain deserved a yellow or red card for his lunge on Steven Defour in the club's 3-2 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Offering an insight into the mind of a referee, Clattenburg explained that without the benefit of replays, all signs pointed to a straight red as Cahill lost control of the ball and then launched straight into a tackle.
