Steve Stone’s side bounced back from Friday’s defeat against Nottingham Forest, with a 3-0 victory over Colchester United on a windy afternoon at the Barnfield Training Centre.
It was a Burnley side that included two U16 players, an England international in Nick Pope and a handful of U18 scholars.
A goal in each half from Rob Harker and a third from 16-year-old Ben Woods in the 88th minute ensured that the Clarets kept the pressure on Birmingham City, who have two games in hand over Stone’s side.
Burnley started bright and came close early on, as Woods fired an effort just over the bar from 25-yards out.
