Today is the 25th anniversary of Brad May’s “Mayday” overtime series and game winning goal against the Boston Bruins in 1993. May turned hall of fame defenseman Ray Bourque inside out and then beat Andy Moog to score one of the most famous goals in NHL history.
The Buffalo Sabres swept the Bruins on that goal and advanced out of the first round after five straight years of losing in the Division Semi-Finals. Three of the five years at the hands of the Bruins.
The goal itself was great, but it was Rick Jeanneret’s call of “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday” that put the icing on the cake.
