The Sydney Bears kicked off their 2016 AIHL season with a false start, losing at home 6-3 to the CBR Brave in their only game of the weekend.

After the game, Geoff Irwin spoke to the Bears media after making his first appearance for the Bears. Irwin is a Canadian import, with the veteran having captained Minnesota State University Mankato where Buffalo Sabres defenseman Casey Nelson also played.
