Sabres sign Riley Sheahan to a professional tryout contract

The Buffalo Sabres announced that they’re bringing another forward to training camp when it opens on Thursday. They signed veteran Riley Sheahan to a professional tryout contract (PTO).

The 29-year-old played with the Edmonton Oilers last season and has moved around a handful of clubs the last few years. He has some scoring touch to his game as he has scored at least 30 points twice in his career.

At this point, the Sabres likely see him as a fourth-line forward that can battle for a roster spot. He’s also a possibility of someone that they can add to their taxi squad to hold depth in the organization.
