Sabres sharpshooters missing in action

The Sabres’ offensive game plan – loosely described as absorb 70 shots and hope a few bounce toward the other net – wasn’t conducive to scoring. Only Tyler Ennis reached 20 goals, with Zemgus Girgensons next at 15. Everyone else had long stretches of invisibility.

Most conspicuous by their absences were Matt Moulson and Cody Hodgson.

Expected to pace the offense, they instead suffered through the worst season of their careers. Moulson, a three-time 30-goal scorer, had only 13. Hodgson, who had 20 goals and a team-high 44 points last season, recorded six goals and 13 points.
