The Buffalo Sabres decided to keep the last pick of the first round they acquired as part of the package in the Ryan O’Reilly trade from the St. Louis Blues. With the 31st pick in the draft they selected left-shot defenseman Ryan Johnson from the Sioux Fall Stampede of the USHL.
The American-born defender is smooth skater that excels at breaking the puck out of his own end of the ice. He’s also good in his own end of the ice, but probably won’t give you a lot offensively in the NHL.
