Rochester Americans sign Matt Ellis to AHL deal

Matt Ellis may not be returning to the Sabres, but he won't be far away. The veteran forward signed a one-year AHL deal with Rochester today.

Ellis, 33, has been in the Sabres organization since being claimed off waivers in 2008. He played in 39 games with the Sabres, notching two points. In 38 games in Rochester he scored seven goals and six assists. He has previously served as the Americans captain and has been a veteran presence at both the NHL and AHL levels.

Ellis has played in 286 career games with the Sabres, scoring 21 goals and 28 assists.
