The Buffalo Sabres had the opportunity to extend their winning streak to 10 games and tie the franchise record. For about 50 minutes it looked like they were going to pull it off without a lot of stress. However, that’s not the way they do it.
It was a fast paced opening period between the Sabres and Sharks. Evander Kane was noticeable in the opening period. He was around the puck a lot and created a few opportunities for his team.
The Sabres had a few chances of their own. Casey Mittelstadt set up Kyle Okposo early in the period and Sam Reinhart had a good opportunity in the middle of the frame.
