Ryan O’Reilly, often overshadowed in Colorado, has dreamed of the chance to be an organizational centerpiece. Now that he is one with Buffalo, he plans on staying for a while.
O’Reilly, acquired from the Avalanche on Friday in a blockbuster deal, says he’s open to signing a contract extension with the Sabres. The earliest he can do it is Wednesday.
“I’m excited to get that moving forward and get that behind me,” O’Reilly said Monday during a conference call.
O’Reilly has one season left on a two-year, $12 million contract. He reportedly asked Colorado for an eight-year, $64 million deal.
