When the Buffalo Sabres hit the ice this October, they’ll likely no longer be playing at the First Niagara Center.
Instead, the ice – and the building itself – will have a new name on it: KeyBank Center.
Buffalo Sabres President Russ Brandon announced the name change on Wednesday. The change comes after KeyBank announced its intentions to merge with First Niagara.
The merger still needs federal approval, but if all goes according to plan, the Buffalo Sabres will be playing out of KeyBank Center come October.
Since the arena opened in 1996, it’s undergone multiple name changes – and this is just the latest in the string.
