Developing a defenseman is one of the most difficult things to do in the NHL. To take a young player and teach them responsibility and poise at high speeds is no easy task, so it is no surprise that some players just don’t make the cut into the NHL. For recent free agent signing Bobby Sanguinetti, it appears that he has only fit in that category so far.
After giving up some defensive depth in the offseason by allowing Andrej Meszaros, Andre Benoit, and Tyson Strachen to walk away to free agency, and trading away Nikita Zadorov, Tim Murray needed to find some players to fill those positions for next year.
