This past Tuesday was a tough day in the NFL as all 32 teams trimmed rosters down to 53 players. Besides players getting released, something else notable was unfolding.
Teams began placing players on the Physically Unable to Perform list, better known as PUP. Players on this list are guaranteed to miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season, but the option to rejoin their team at some point in-season remains on the table.
Players can also be designated to return, which is a little different. They still have to miss the first four games of the regular season but then there is a 21-day practice window where the player must be added to the roster or else they miss the rest of the season.
