The Buffalo Bills were relatively healthy on the playing field heading into Sunday’s season opener against the New York Jets. The same could not be said of Buffalo’s coaches, as running backs coach Kelly Skipper was hurt and not on the sidelines as the Bills grounded the Jets, 21-12 at New Era Field.
With the coaching staff depleted, offensive coordinator Rick Dennison ended up calling plays on the sidelines, a move the players said they supported, according to BuffaloBills.com. Dennison alternated between the sideline and the booth during the preseason.
One player in particular was a big fan of Dennison’s new location for calling plays: quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who completed 16 of 28 for 224 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in the season-opening win.
