NFL owners voted 30-2 to change the distance for extra points making it a 33-yard attempt instead of a 20 yarder. Defensive teams can also return blocked kicks or two-point conversion turnovers for two points. The changes appear straightforward on the surface, but for NFL kickers like Buffalo’s Dan Carpenter there are many layers to how the changes affect his part of the game.
When asked how it affects his game, Carpenter responded with a question of his own.
“How much time do I have on that,” he quipped.
Carpenter, like most NFL kickers, feels the new rules which move the spot of extra points back to the 15-yard line will change a lot of things on that play and not just for kickers.
