Under the direction of head coach Sean McDermott, the Buffalo Bills have fielded one of the NFL’s best regular-season defenses year after year. In the last five seasons, Buffalo’s defense has finished the regular season ranked near the top in most key team-wide stats.
In looking over data at Pro Football Reference, the 2019 Bills finished second overall in defense, 16th in 2020, first in 2021, second in 2022, and fourth last season in 2023.
While McDermott didn’t expressly call plays outside of last season, it’s widely understood that he had his hands within the framework of the defense orchestrated by former defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.
