Now that Kathryn Smith has made history as the first female, full-time assistant coach in the NFL, it’s a good time to explain what her role will be with the Buffalo Bills.
Smith’s title – quality control-special teams – is a bit nebulous, as was head coach Rex Ryan’s statement announcing her hiring.
“Kathryn has been working in a football administrative role and assisted the assistant coaches for years,” Ryan said in a press release issued Wednesday night announcing her promotion. “She has proven that she’s ready for the next step, so I’m excited and proud for her with this opportunity.
