Polian takes his place among football immortals

CANTON, Ohio – He never imagined standing on this stage, surrounded by 111 gold jackets. Not for a second while running three teams over three decades. Bill Polian found the Hall of Famers. He wasn’t one himself.

Then, the moment sank in.

Under the lights at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on Saturday night, Polian saved the best for last. The one person who’s meant most to his career.

“Coach Marv Levy,” Polian said. “Four decades ago, he took an interest in an obscure scout whose reports impressed him. That was me. If not for Marv, I would not have a career in pro football, let alone be standing here.
