NFL's first full-time female coach still 'amazed'

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills special teams quality control coach Kathryn Smith said Wednesday she found the national reaction to her hiring "a bit overwhelming" after she became the NFL's first-ever full-time female coach in January.

"That was, like I said, it was an honor," she said. "It was really incredible. It was amazing that it made that much of a splash. A bit overwhelming, too, because, again, I was just trying to do my job and wasn't expecting all of that. But it's been good. For the most part, it's been positive, so that's been nice.
