Washington Redskins offensive lineman Arie Kouandjio and his family emigrated from Cameroon when he was 6 years old. Tuesday, Kouandjio completed another part of that journey -- by becoming an American citizen.
Kouandjio's father survived a civil war near his African village as a child -- sometimes hiding out in the forest to protect himself and his baby sister. Eventually, though, the Kouandjio's came to America where the boys were enrolled in private schools.
Both Arie and his younger brother Cyrus, a starting tackle for Buffalo, ended up graduating from DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Maryland.
