Explaining Buffalo Bills’ salary cap impact of Michael Hoecht, Larry Ogunjobi suspensions

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane announced on Friday, March 14 that newly signed defensive end Mike Hoecht and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi will each serve six-game suspensions to start the 2025 season for violating the NFL’s PED policy. Those penalties carry significant financial consequences.

Per Spotrac, Hoecht is expected to forfeit approximately $1.47 million during the suspension:

  • $1 million in base salary ($3,000,000 / 18 weeks * 6 Game suspension)
  • $293,000 in signing bonus
  • $180,000 in per-game active roster bonuses ($30,000 per game)

Because Hoecht’s suspension was handed down after his deal was finalized, the Bills will now receive cap relief from the forfeited money.
