ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- And the New York Jets' backup quarterback is...
For this week, anyway.
Still not convinced that Bryce Petty (sprained knee) is healthy enough to suit up, the Jets opted for Hackenberg as the No. 2 quarterback, I'm told. Petty sprained his left MCL in the third preseason game, two weeks ago. He practiced fully last week, but coach Todd Bowles evidently had reservations about putting him on the game-day roster. Petty still was wearing a knee brace during pregame warm-ups.
The Jets face the Buffalo Bills, who could put a lot of pressure on the quarterback with a strong front four.
