TEMPE, Ariz. -- As they say in the NFL, every backup quarterback is a heartbeat away from being a starter.
That's the case this week for Zac Dysert.
The 26-year-old was promoted from the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad Tuesday and will be active as Drew Stanton's backup Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers. Starter Carson Palmer didn't make the trip to the Bay Area because of a concussion he suffered Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.
Dysert was signed by the Cardinals on Sept. 6 and has "picked up the offense really quick," coach Bruce Arians said.
