Simply put it was a defensive unit that underachieved in 2015. Coming off of a season in which they ranked fourth in the NFL in total defense and led the league in sacks (54), the Bills slipped all the way to 19th overall and 31st in quarterback takedowns. Players and coaches blame their shortcomings on a false sense of security. The combination of a largely unchanged defensive roster that was top five in the league, and a head coach who has one of the most successful defensive schemes in football created a built-in sense of confidence that wasn’t backed up with day-after-day dedication.
