Bruce Smith had many impressive statistics throughout his NFL career, but on Thursday night, the most important number was the one he wore for 16 years with the Buffalo Bills--78.
There are 30 members of the Bills Wall of Fame, but Smith follows Jim Kelly as only the second player in franchise history to have his number retired.
“For Terry and Kim Pegula to pay homage and to reach back into the Bills rich history and honor the number 78 is a humbling experience,” Smith said. “They spared no expense. They wanted to make sure it was done right.
