Bills’ quarterbacks stand up to scrutiny

You want efficiency? Matt Cassel is your smart, savvied, safe-throwing man.

You want excitement? Tyrod Taylor has plenty of it in those fast feet of his.

You want a giant passing arm? EJ Manuel is happy to remind you that he can still deliver.

That, in a nutshell, was the quarterbacking story for the Buffalo Bills in their 25-24 preseason-opening loss against the Carolina Panthers before a sparse crowd at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Friday night despite the announced ticket distribution of 65,412.

Panthers third-string quarterback Joe Webb pulled out the win with a 42-yard touchdown pass to running back Brandon Wegher with 54 seconds left, followed by his two-point conversion connection with wide receiver Paul Browning.
