Bills sign S Robert Blanton

It was a visit that quickly turned into a signing. Free agent safety Robert Blanton toured One Bills Drive Friday and quickly put his signature on a contract with Buffalo before he left.

Blanton, 26, was a free agent safety who spent the first four years of his career with Minnesota, the team that made him a fifth-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

He served primarily as a backup safety behind starter Harrison Smith with the Vikings and was a key contributor on Minnesota’s special teams units.

After playing cornerback in college at Notre Dame, Blanton moved to safety in the NFL and offers the coverage skills now needed at the safety position.
