The Buffalo Bills must cut their roster to 53 by 4 p.m. ET Saturday, Sept. 1. Here’s a final 53-man roster projection:
The Bills gave Allen a chance to start their third preseason game Sunday against the Bengals because they wanted the rookie to simulate a regular-season week, something Peterman and McCarron had previously experienced. Buffalo starting Allen in that game was not a sign that he was the favorite to win the job, and Allen should not be considered the favorite to start Week 1 after his performance Sunday. A combination of a lack of decisiveness from Allen and issues in protection from an ever-shifting offensive line led to a five-sack game in which Allen went 6-for-12 passing for 34 yards.
