The Buffalo Bills generally use four defensive ends in a rotation each game. Sometimes, they’ll even use five, and they did so with greater frequency last season thanks to continued injury recovery from veteran edge rusher Von Miller. Head coach Sean McDermott’s preference is to have fresh legs rushing the passer rather than keeping his best players in for a large majority of the snaps.

That means the defensive end position is one that emphasizes depth in addition to overall talent. While there will be a definitive pecking order of who takes the most snaps, it’s highly unlikely that anyone will go much over half of the defensive snaps along the edge, and even less likely that anyone will approach even 60% of the playing time at that position.
