The Buffalo Bills run a nickel defense as their base. As a result, their nickel corner essentially has to have the speed, quickness, and agility of a defensive back while possessing the toughness and tackling ability of a linebacker. If that fifth defensive back can’t play in run support, then it tanks the whole thing.
Fortunately for the Bills, they have a player who can fit that spot perfectly. Without him, the team would struggle to run the base defense they run. Rare is the defensive back who can fill all the roles of Buffalo’s starting nickel, but general manager Brandon Beane found one in his first draft with the team.
