LAS VEGAS — San Antonio’s Tim Duncan, the greatest power forward in NBA history, officially retired on Monday morning. And that night, Nets general manager Sean Marks — who won a ring with Duncan as a teammate, and another as an assistant coach — gushed over the legacy the Spurs’ icon left on his team, his city and his sport.
“I’m really speechless, to be honest; I’m a little surprised he’s not going to play for another four, five years,’’ Marks deadpanned of the 40-year-old Duncan, who spent his entire 19-year shoo-in Hall of Fame career in San Antonio.
