Only hours after Kevin Durant scored 29 points to lead Team USA to the Olympic gold, his new teammate Patty Mills scored 42 to lead Australia to the bronze, the Boomers’ first medal in men’s basketball. With Mills dominating early, the Boomers defeated Slovenia and Luka Doncic, 107-93, in Tokyo.
Mills, who agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal with Brooklyn three days ago, broke the Olympic medal round scoring record, previously held by Drau017een “Praja” Dalipagiu0107 who scored 37 for Yugoslavia in the 1984 bronze medal game.
The 6’2” guard simply dominated across the board, with 42 points, on 11-of-16 from two-point range, 4-of-15 from three and 8-of-10 from the line.
