LAS VEGAS — It has been a long, winding road through professional basketball for Willie Reed, still chasing his dream of playing in the NBA.
But throughout the past three years, as Reed has played in the D-League with only fleeting glances of the big-time — a pair of call-ups with the Grizzlies and Kings without getting a chance to play, and getting invited to Nets training camp last fall before getting cut — he never has lost faith things would work out.
And, after the Nets signed him to a one-year deal with a $500,000 guarantee last week after an impressive performance for the Heat’s summer league team in Orlando, it appears Reed’s belief in himself finally may be paying off.
