Ed Davis hadn’t been a Net before this season, doesn’t have a long-term contract and isn’t a starter. But he has still managed to not only help transform the team but become a locker-room leader.
Inking Davis to a modest one-year, $4.4 million deal has worked out better than the Nets could have hoped. And his time in Brooklyn has worked out better than he could have expected — to the point he’d love to stay.
“Honestly, I think about free agency,” Davis said before Brooklyn hosted the Hornets on Wednesday. “But I try to live in the moment, enjoy the season, take it one game at a time, enjoying Brooklyn, enjoying New York, instead of thinking about next year, 10 years down the line, retirement, things like that.
