It was quite the “Sunday funday” in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood this weekend. Hours before the New York Liberty hosted Game 2 of the WNBA Finals, the Brooklyn Nets assembled in the heart of Bed-Stuy to participate in the team’s annual Practice in the Park.
As leaves fell onto the Potomac Park blacktop, buckets followed through nets and t-shirts flew over fences dropping into fan hands. The event felt like a pep rally both for the WNBA championship bout later that afternoon a few subway stops to the west and Brooklyn’s own upcoming season. It was two celebrations of Brooklyn basketball packed into one on a weekend to end all fall sports weekends.
