ESSAY: On Dennis Schröder, Kevin Durant, and the divide between European and NBA basketball

Following his Olympics loss with Team Germany in the bronze-medal match, Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Schröder was asked if “the rest of the world is catching up with the United States” in men’s basketball.

“I gotta be careful here,” he said. “I think European basketball is no entertainment; it’s straight IQ basketball, straight coaching, and really, really high IQ guys who know how to play the game ... of course the USA is the best league in the world, but the Europeans, they’re coming for sure.”
