ORLANDO, Fla. — D’Angelo Russell has gone from unwanted in L.A. to All-Star in Brooklyn.
The Nets guard earned his first All-Star nod, picked by NBA commissioner Adam Silver as an injury replacement for Indiana’s Victor Oladipo. It’s an unmitigated success story for Russell, who was discarded by the Lakers, and also for the Nets, who have made the 2015 No. 2-overall pick the centerpiece of their rebuild.
“Like I said, to be in this position where my play individually is getting that type of exposure, that’s something you definitely want to put on your shoulders,” Russell had said Thursday, before getting the news.
