LOS ANGELES — Kenny Atkinson invoked Steve Nash’s game as a target for D’Angelo Russell to aim at, saying with his elite vision the Nets’ flashy — and frustrating — young guard should be churning out double-digit assists.
Does Russell have that kind of talent? Maybe.
Do the Nets need to develop him into that kind of cornerstone? Probably.
Is he giving them that kind of production? Not close. That’s what makes his turnover woes and late-game decision-making lapses so maddening. And that’s what the rest of this season — and perhaps next — is about fixing.
