Brooklyn Nets win the Blake Griffin sweepstakes

The best just got better. The Brooklyn Nets are signing Blake Griffin following his buyout from the Detroit Pistons. Shams Charania of The Athletic was the first to report the news of Griffin’s signing.

Brooklyn will use a veteran-minimum contract slot for Griffin. He gave back $13.3 million to the Pistons in his buyout after it became clear that they were not going to find a trade partner.

Griffin, 31, averaged 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 20 games with the Pistons this year. Injuries have taken a toll on the six-time All-Star in recent years, but the Nets hope he can bring something to the table.
