Sunday night, amidst one of the craziest openings in NBA free agency history, it was revealed that Kevin Durant chose the Brooklyn Nets over the New York Knicks. While that’s old news, just why he chose Brooklyn surfaced later into the night.
It was revealed that notorious Knicks owner James Dolan was not comfortable with offering KD a max contract coming off of a torn Achilles. Dolan thought offering Durant max contract money would be too much of a risk, per Sports Illustrated‘s Michael Rosenberg.
With the Knicks ultimately passing up on KD, the conversations between Kyrie Irving and Durant sealed the deal.
