It sounds like Jay Z did more recruiting for Brooklyn than we knew.
Jay Z’s diss track about DeShawn Stevenson in 2008 – when Jay Z was a part-owner of the New Jersey Nets – was part of an attempt to lure LeBron James in his pending free-agency “Decision,” according to a fellow rapper’s recent gossip.
Considering how far differently James and Stevenson are esteemed as players, it’s easy to forget they once had a beef. To paraphrase rap great Big Pun, Stevenson isn’t even in James’ class. But Stevenson actually called James overrated in 2008, and King James replied that going back at Stevenson, then a role player with the Wizards, would be like Soulja Boy trying to go at Jay Z.
